Post Vernal Pools in Bangor
Hello,
I took a walk in the City Forest last night to check out the amphibian activity in the vernal pools. It was a good trip... five different species, four of which were within a stone's throw of the parking lot (the pickerel frogs were a little further out). Wood frogs were definitely the most numerous species that I saw, and there were a fair number of spotted salamanders and pickerel frogs as well. I encountered two green frogs, and as I was leaving the parking lot, spotted a large female bullfrog on the side of the road. Spring peepers and possibly gray treefrogs were heard but not seen.
