Post Interesting Phone Call
Well this with somewhat fit in the category.

I just received a phone call while here at work. Just as soon as I picked up the phone the gentleman on the other line asked "Is this Bob DuBois", "Yes", "the President of the Maine Herpetological Society", "Yes". I could tell he was quite worked up at this point, not knowing what was going on I figured someone just found something they needed removed or some other strange thing was happening. I asked who he was, "This is 'Dave' at a Conn. Fire department, I am hoping you can help us settle a debate down here. We are debating if there are poisonous snakes in Maine."

What?!?!? I just started laughing, never had that type of question before, well at least from someone out of state with so much energy in his voice. He really wanted the answer to the question, must have been quite the debate in the fire house.

I gave him the fun answer, there are no poisonous snakes in the world, but I think you meant venomous. I got a little more serious, said Maine originally was home to timber rattle snakes. Though there hasn't been a confirmed sighting since around 1907 or 1911, truthfully I can never remember exactly when it is. However, I have talked with people who have supposedly seen then, or even have pictures of people with them in Maine, however they never say exactly where, and the proof always seems to be a little lacking.

In short no confirmed sightings since about a hundred years ago.

The guy thanked me and said good bye. I wish I had asked who was right with the debate.

All I can said is this must have been brought up by that Geico commercial.

Bob.
